Project 22 - 22 Cyclones
This design emerges by adding tiny dots to the screen to form lines, tracing the paths of hundreds of thousands of virtual particles over time and space; a study in kinematics.
Mathematically, these are streamlines of a vector field - a type of graph. Vector fields are used to analyze the motion of fluids and gasses through space, for example, the weather. When these fields are constructed generatively, familiar patterns emerge alongside unfamiliar patterns.
A flow field is generated with 22 rotating cyclones. For each cyclone, the colors are assigned according to 1 of 7 color pallets :
Copper Cotton Candy EM Spectrum Ocean Plant Nebula Monochrome.
The ratio of 22 and 7 is an approximation for pi, an irrational number related to circles and rotation The rotating motion from the flow field causes the colors to mix
